Since 1985 all vehicles and equipment found on the farm now come under the Road Traffic Legislation.

There are some strange anomalies in respect of such items, incl. Taxation, registration, driving licences, operator licensing to name but a few.

Since 1984 Mike has specialised in the law relating to the use of Agricultural Vehicles on the Road and lectures to various authorities country wide, including the NFU, Department of Transport, Police Forces, Vehicle Manufacturers including John Deere, Massey Ferguson and JCB as well as numerous farming organisations. and Agricultural Colleges.

He is now a consultant for various manufacturers and organisations including, JCB, BAGMA, John Deere, Unimog, Massey Ferguson, and The Department of Transport.

Agricultural Vehicles On The Road

He has written a book in an attempt to help people to understand the law relating to the use of such vehicles when they are taken onto the Highway, and is used by the above authorities including The Health and Safety Executive, as well as manufacturers in America and Europe.

The Book (nicknamed “The Bible” is written as a practical guide for both the ordinary farmer and the enforcement agencies, and deals with all regulations from basic definitions to lighting requirements, construction, driving categories and licences, age limits accident procedure, red diesel, the carriage of dangerous substances and vehicle maintenance etc.

The book is available at a cost of £15 each, plus p & p, (reductions available for large numbers). Due to the loose leaf nature of the publication it can easily be amended to ensure that you are kept right up to date with any changes in the legislation.
